WEBVTT 00:02.039 --> 00:04.460 In late May . The 142 civil engineer 00:04.469 --> 00:06.710 squadron traveled to Japan to execute a 00:06.719 --> 00:09.380 project on Yokota Air Bases flight line . 00:10.239 --> 00:12.350 The project is to expand the fox trot 00:12.350 --> 00:14.470 apron here at Yokota Airbase and the 00:14.479 --> 00:16.590 purpose is to make more parking spots 00:16.590 --> 00:18.701 for large body aircraft . In order to 00:18.701 --> 00:20.423 accomplish this , Clark's team 00:20.423 --> 00:22.479 excavated a formerly grassy strip of 00:22.479 --> 00:24.819 land and prepared it for concrete . 00:25.559 --> 00:27.726 This is the first of four strips which 00:27.726 --> 00:29.892 will be filled this summer by four Air 00:29.892 --> 00:33.110 National Guard Units . Once completed , 00:33.119 --> 00:35.175 this project will allow room to park 00:35.175 --> 00:37.529 three additional C 130 aircraft on 00:37.860 --> 00:40.099 Yokota's flight line while this project 00:40.110 --> 00:42.560 directly benefits Yokota Airbase , it 00:42.569 --> 00:44.799 has also provided unique opportunities 00:44.810 --> 00:47.770 for 142 civil engineers . That is a 00:47.779 --> 00:50.009 great opportunity for us to have airmen 00:50.020 --> 00:51.798 touch equipment . They wouldn't 00:51.798 --> 00:53.631 normally be able to touch a home 00:53.631 --> 00:55.576 station and to do some things they 00:55.576 --> 00:55.349 wouldn't normally do . We got a lot of 00:55.360 --> 00:57.082 cross training going on . It's 00:57.082 --> 00:59.193 predominantly a dirt boy job , but we 00:59.193 --> 01:01.304 have our electricians , plumbers HVAC 01:01.304 --> 01:03.416 technicians , everybody getting in on 01:03.416 --> 01:05.360 the job and touching equipment and 01:05.360 --> 01:07.304 learning more things outside their 01:07.304 --> 01:09.360 career field . But then also we have 01:09.360 --> 01:09.110 opportunities here where the local 01:09.120 --> 01:11.120 shops have allowed us to train with 01:11.120 --> 01:13.176 them and touch the stuff we wouldn't 01:13.176 --> 01:15.064 normally touch at home . For many 01:15.064 --> 01:17.231 airmen projects such as this one offer 01:17.231 --> 01:19.287 an opportunity to broaden skill sets 01:19.287 --> 01:21.398 and become more versatile and able to 01:21.398 --> 01:23.676 execute a variety of different mission , 01:23.676 --> 01:25.731 essential tasks . So my role in this 01:25.731 --> 01:27.731 project is basically manpower . I'm 01:27.731 --> 01:29.898 here to assist in the operation in any 01:29.898 --> 01:31.953 way I can uh whether that be joining 01:31.953 --> 01:33.953 all the career fields or you know , 01:33.953 --> 01:35.676 integration with the shops and 01:35.676 --> 01:37.787 providing help out there . You know , 01:37.787 --> 01:39.509 it's always kind of a learning 01:39.509 --> 01:41.676 experience trying to figure out how to 01:41.676 --> 01:43.842 operate everything and what you should 01:43.842 --> 01:43.569 be doing . You should not be doing , 01:43.870 --> 01:46.092 you know , we're doing a lot with their 01:46.092 --> 01:48.370 boys right now . And as an electrician , 01:48.370 --> 01:48.080 you get to kind of experience what 01:48.089 --> 01:50.610 their world is like and kind of how to 01:50.620 --> 01:52.676 build the foundation of the job site 01:52.676 --> 01:54.898 and what their process is like has been 01:54.898 --> 01:57.220 really interesting to learn . In 01:57.230 --> 01:59.286 addition to this project , emergency 01:59.286 --> 02:01.508 management and the fire department have 02:01.508 --> 02:03.730 taken the opportunity to integrate with 02:03.730 --> 02:05.897 their active duty and durational staff 02:05.897 --> 02:08.119 counterparts to conduct valuable career 02:08.119 --> 02:10.063 field training . Over the two week 02:10.063 --> 02:13.089 period , firefighters participated in a 02:13.100 --> 02:15.699 variety of hands on training to include 02:15.710 --> 02:17.910 two live burns , giving airmen an 02:17.919 --> 02:20.179 opportunity to develop their skills 02:20.190 --> 02:21.968 while building positive working 02:21.968 --> 02:24.809 relationships , emergency management , 02:24.820 --> 02:26.653 airmen conducted land navigation 02:26.653 --> 02:29.070 training among several other briefings 02:29.080 --> 02:31.259 trainings and exercises in co 02:31.270 --> 02:33.381 ordination with other active duty and 02:33.381 --> 02:36.149 guard personnel . In the final days of 02:36.160 --> 02:38.070 the primary project , the team's 02:38.080 --> 02:40.419 efforts reached a pinnacle with all 02:40.429 --> 02:42.679 hands on deck as concrete was poured 02:42.690 --> 02:44.857 and spread into the strip , reaching a 02:44.857 --> 02:46.949 near completion of the first of four 02:46.960 --> 02:49.520 strips to be filled . This has been a 02:49.529 --> 02:51.770 fun opportunity for us because a lot of 02:51.779 --> 02:53.890 us have not been in Japan or in P A . 02:53.890 --> 02:55.723 And so it's been good to get the 02:55.723 --> 02:57.612 exposure to this environment , uh 02:57.612 --> 02:59.835 different culture , but then also the , 02:59.949 --> 03:01.782 the Air Force life out here at P 03:03.149 --> 03:05.490 reporting for the 1 42nd wing . I'm 03:05.500 --> 03:07.330 master sergeant , Steph Sawyer .
