Bell P-39 Airacobra
The 26th and 116th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadrons flew the Bell P-39 Airacobra fighter in 1943 during the Oregon Maneuver. Although the squadrons ultimately were disbanded in November, 1943, and thus did not deploy overseas, the P-39 was used by other tactical reconnaissance squadrons in combat in the Pacific and Mediterranean theaters. This late-model P-39Q is pictured at the National Museum of the Air Force, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. (U.S. Air Force Photo)
