Redhawk Battle Honors: Distinguished Unit Citation
Second Lieutenant Frederick W. Nerney, from Attleboro, Massachusetts, joined the 371st Fighter Group as a replacement pilot when the unit was at Tantonville Airfield, France. He was assigned to the 406th Fighter Squadron but killed in action later, after the unit moved to Metz Airfield, France, during a combat mission over Germany on 19 March 1945.
