Remembering the OreANG’s Vietnam Veterans
A Boeing Vertol CH-47C Chinook helicopter of the U.S. Army’s Phu Loi-based 213th Assault Support Helicopter Company (ASHC), the “Black Cats” of the 114th Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Brigade, which was Spec/4 Rod Smith’s first unit in Vietnam . When the 213th ASHC was disbanded in Vietnam in 1972, Smith was transferred to another unit which supported both UH-1 “Hueys” and Chinooks, the 120th Aviation Company, “The Deans” of the 145th Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Brigade, at Long Bien.
