The Oregon Air Guard and Victory over Japan
T/Sgt Ben Olbrich served with the 67th Fighter Squadron in the Philippines in the final part of World War II. Olbrich was one of the original members of Oregon’s 123rd Observation Squadron. The squadron’s famous Fighting Cock insignia seen posted near the unit’s camp area on the island of Palawan in October, 1945, showing a total of 26 aerial victories in World War II. Today the squadron flies the F-15C Eagle fighter at Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan. (NARA, via Fold3)
