The Birth Pangs of Portland ANG Base – Part III: Dedication and Development
William Graham Everson, former Chief of the National Guard Bureau, was President of Linfield College in Portland and gave remarks at the dedication of Portland Army Air Base on Flag Day, 1941. Of note, in World War I he commanded the 332nd Infantry Regiment. This regiment served in Italy and was the only US Army unit to serve east of the Adriatic Sea, which included post-Armistice operations in the Balkans in Serbia, Montenegro, Austria and Dalmatia.
