Local area resident and 371st Fighter Group P-47 Thunderbolt pilot Francis E. “Gene” Madore flew 103 combat missions in the group’s 406th Fighter Squadron. He is credited with four aerial victories over enemy fighter planes achieved between July and October, 1944, including three Me-109s and one FW-190.
