Veterans of The Mighty Eighth: The Oregon Air National Guard’s connections to the Eighth Air Force of World War II

S/Sgt. John H. Pear was a charter member of Oregon’s first military aviation unit, the 123rd Observation Squadron. He was later reassigned for overseas duty as a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress gunner assigned to the 613th Bomb Squadron, 401st Bomb Group in England.
