2nd Lt. Victor L. Unruh was a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot of the 406th Fighter Squadron, 371st Fighter Group. On June 21, 1944, he was lost in action during an escort mission for Eighth Air Force heavy bombers flying P-47D Thunderbolt serial number 42-75564 (see Missing Air Crew Report 6681).
