POADS achieved a first as an air defense sector in being awarded the Air Force’s Outstanding Unit Award for the period June 8, 1960 to April 30, 1962. The sector headquarters at Adair AFS and its nine operational fighter-interceptor and radar squadrons (including the 123rd FIS) received the AFOUA for this period. The POADS Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) Direction Center (DC-13) blockhouse looms behind the official party of the award ceremony. (142nd Wing History Archive)
