Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, France. The U.S. flag flies over the graves of the fallen at Brittany American Cemetery. There are 4,410 American soldiers buried on the 28 acres there, most of whom died during the Normandy and Brittany campaigns of World war II. This cemetery is maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission, established by Congress in 1923, which commemorates the service, achievements, and sacrifice of U.S. armed forces. The ABMC administers 26 overseas military cemeteries, and 32 memorials, monuments, and markers. (Photo by Warrick Page/ABMC)
