Happy 80th Birthday, 142nd Wing!
Lt Col Edwin D. “Jesse” Taylor was an Eagle Squadron Spitfire pilot in No. 133 Squadron, RAF who transferred to the USAAF and became the first commander of the 371st Fighter Group’s 406th Fighter Squadron from July, 1943 into September, 1944. Wounded in action in his Eagle Squadron days, he recovered and was a ferocious combat leader; it is said that after completing assigned combat missions in France, he took end of day “test hops” in solo actions against nearby enemy forces.
