Oregon’s Viper Years

Lt Col Steven V. Harper climbs down from the first operational F-16 ADF fighter to be assigned, March 1, 1989. By mid-year the squadron had 18 F-16s on hand. Note the circular white spotlight forward, and the lack of the IFF “bird slicer” antennas forward of the cockpit, perhaps a component not fully available at the time. This aircraft was assigned to Oregon between March, 1989 and June, 1990 and ultimately was refurbished for service in the Royal Jordanian Air Force in February, 2003. (142nd Wing History Archive)
