Getting Patton to the Rhine

P-47D Thunderbolt “CAMP FIRE” with Lt. Howard C. Camp, 405th Fighter Squadron of the 371st Fighter Group, returning from a mission over Germany. Note the pilot has cracked open the canopy. Lt. Camp was awarded the Air Medal and the 1st Oak Leaf Cluster during the month of March, 1945. The P-47D “Spark Plug” is seen beyond on the outside of the formation.
