Getting Patton to the Rhine
View of previously damaged P-47D-30-RA Thunderbolt, serial number 44-33148 of the 404th Fighter Squadron (squadron code 9Q), 371st Fighter Group, in one of the repaired hangars at Metz which offered much improved conditions to the engineers (aircraft maintainers) working to keep them flying. The 371st Fighter Group enjoyed an outstanding aircraft maintenance record, reflected in the group’s ability to generate and sustain a record number of number of sorties in March, 1945.
