Fightin’ Bull in the Indochina Shop – The Southeast Asia Service of Lars Granath
Fightin’ Bull aircrew Bill Olander and Don Logan (at right) are seen here at a 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron reunion at Sheppard AFB, TX in 2010. They were flying F-4E 67-0339 in Bass Flight as escort for a day strike mission over North Vietnam on July 5, 1972 when it was bounced by a MiG-21 Fishbed and their aircraft was hit by a AA-2 Atoll air-to-air missile. They had to bail out and were captured and held as POWs until release in 1973, some nine months later. In 1995, Schiffer published Don Logan’s pictorial history of his tour of duty at Korat, The 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, 1972. (Courtesy of Col Lars Granath)
