Chomping at the Bit – The 371st Fighter Group’s Start on D-Day
Maj. Harvey L. Case, Jr. was the first commander of the 405th Fighter Squadron (Call sign Discharge, squadron aircraft fuselage code 8N) and led the squadron in the early days and early period of combat in Europe. The 405th was the first squadron of the 371st Fighter Group to fly into combat on D-Day in support of the Allied landings in Normandy. (The Story of the 371st Fighter Group in the ETO)
