From D+2 Onward - The Aerial Victories of the 142nd Wing
One of the high scoring pilots in the 371st Fighter Group was 1st Lt. Francis E. “Gene” Madore, 406th Fighter Squadron, with four aerial victories to his credit, the highest in his squadron. He claimed an FW-190 in a dogfight on 28 Jul 1944 which was not upheld by higher headquarters. Gene Madore lived in Vancouver, Washington and visited Portland Air Base several times in the 2010s before he flew west in 2019. (The Story of the 371st Fighter Group in the ETO)
