Twenty Months In and Out-Country – Col. Scott Powell in Southeast Asia, 1971-1972

A Nikon camera hero picture of 1st Lt. Scott Powell, USAF, assigned to the 390th TFS of the 366th TFW, by an F-4E Phantom II in a hardened aircraft shelter at the air defense alert area at Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, circa September 1971. Note the AIM-9 Sidewinder under the right wing at viewer left, and the barrels of the M-61 Vulcan 20mm cannon in the chin of the aircraft. The serial number 341 was allocated to three different F-4Es, a Block 33, 35, and 37, funded in Fiscal Years 1966, 1967 and 1968, respectively; it’s unclear which aircraft this one was.
