“...It was anticlimactic” - Victory in Europe Day for the 371st Fighter Group
Original caption 2 of 2: ““. . . Give me five years and you won’t recognize Germany . . .”---A. Hitler.” Seen here are the ruins of the Neo-Gothic style architecture Christuskirche in the Steinbühl area of Nuremberg after aerial bombardment in early 1945. The church was the first in Germany to be equipped with electric lighting and heating. Today, only the 240-foot tower remains of the original 1894 structure after postwar demolition of most of the ruins. A new church sanctuary was completed adjacent to the tower in 1957.
