The Wartime Life of a Gunplumber: An Interview with Victor B. Kramer
Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1924, Victor Kramer enlisted into the United States Army in September 1942 as an airplane armorer. He served in five major campaigns in Europe including Normandy on June 6, 1944. Kramer’s job was to inspect and perform maintenance on all armaments within the unit, and load bombs and ammunition onto aircraft. His duties also included examining aerial machine guns and other aircraft armaments, and equipment such as aerial cannons, bomb racks, bomb release mechanisms, gun mounts, gun turrets, and pyrotechnics for cleanliness and proper functioning.
