Oregon Combat Operations Group realigns under fighter wings

Prior to Oct. 1, 2015 four distinct units made up the Oregon Air National Guard Combat Operations Group (COG). The four units that made up the COG were the 116th ACS, 125th STS, 123rd WF and 270th ATCS gathered here for a group photograph following 5 days of training at Camp Rilea, Ore., June 21, 2013. The 6th Bomb Group visits Portland

The B-29 “Wun Wing Lo” was assigned to the 40th Bomb Squadron. It was flown by the Capt. Harrison M. Harp, Jr. Crew, #40r4. Sgt Arthur H. "Art" Angel, a mechanic who worked on this airplane, recalled how the aircraft got its name after a truck ran into one of the wings, which was replaced. The replacement wing hung lower that the other wing, and the aircraft was then named. Mrs. Elaine Angel attended the 6th Bomb Group’s Portland reunion in honor of her late husband. Pictured here at Iwo Jima in 1945, “Flak Alley Sally,” was a Superfortress assigned to the 40th Bomb Squadron, a B-29-55-BW, serial number 42-24878. Seen here refueling at Iwo Jima in 1945 following a raid on the Empire, she bears the early markings of the group with the “L” (6th Bomb Group identification letter) above a triangle (313th Bomb Wing identification symbol) above the aircraft serial number.
