Redhawk Athena drives Positive Change for 142nd Wing Airmen

As an outcome of the 101st Air Force uniform board, Air Force women will be able to wear their hair in up to two braids or a single ponytail with bulk not exceeding the width of the head and length not extending below a horizontal line running between the top of each sleeve inseam at the under arm through the shoulder blades. In addition, women’s bangs may now touch their eyebrows, but not cover their eyes. F-16B ADF 82-1027 soars over the 9,184-foot peak of Mt. Thielsen and Diamond Lake in the High Cascades of southern Oregon. F-16B ADF 82-1031 thunders off the runway in afterburner carrying a travel pod under the left wing, and probably three external fuel tanks, suggesting a cross-country mission of some type away from the local area. The Oregon Air National Guard’s 142nd Fighter-Interceptor Group spent time and effort between late 1986 and early 1988 preparing to receive the F-16 ADF at both Portland and Kingsley Field locations (note the two starred locations on the Oregon element of the design). The 114th Fighter Squadron flagship F-16A ADF 82-1014 touches down smoothly after a mission sometime after the squadron’s 1992 redesignation. It is named “City of Klamath Falls,” as seen just above the bulge at the bottom of the tail, after the community nearby to Kingsley Field. It was assigned to Oregon from April, 1989 to May, 1998, was refurbished for service with the Italian Air Force from 2003 to 2010, and in 2020 was converted to a full-scale aerial target drone. Lt Col Steven V. Harper climbs down from the first operational F-16 ADF fighter to be assigned, March 1, 1989. By mid-year the squadron had 18 F-16s on hand. Note the circular white spotlight forward, and the lack of the IFF “bird slicer” antennas forward of the cockpit, perhaps a component not fully available at the time.
